BBQ
Just
after the Civil War in 1867, the Roberts family loaded their
possessions onto a wagon and set out from Biloxi, Mississippi,
eventually settling in Driftwood, Texas. On the trip, they barbequed
meat by searing it and then slow-cooking it over coals on a pit made
with rocks. An earthen berm was created to block the wind and hold in
the smoke. Those original family recipes from the Southeast are the
basis for what we do now.
Over the years, the recipes were “Texafied” taking
on the local flavors of the land – like chili, cumin and
cayenne. In 1967, one hundred years after the Roberts family settled in
Driftwood, Thurman Roberts cleared an area on the family’s
land and built a barbeque pit. The limestone used to make the pit was
quarried from the land. (That pit is still in use today.) He would
start cooking on Thursday night, sleep on a cot next to the pit, and
sell the meat until it was all gone.
From those small beginnings, we now seat over 800 people and on an
average Saturday we feed around 2000 people.

Brewery
We
love craft beer as much as this Lone Star State! We create handmade
Texan-American beers focused on high quality and local products. We are
driven by our passion to make great beer, so let's celebrate it!
Our mission is to have fun, treat people right (both
customers and employees) and bring something new to our local market
through beer. We’re passionate about combining hops, grains,
yeast, and water into your glass to create something unique that
we’re really proud of and that we hope you enjoy and share
with your friends and family.
Some people drink the same beer they always have and are
afraid of the unknown, but there is so much more to our Tex Mex
Beer™. We want to educate people on how different ingredients
can make complex beers that will make you rethink how you view beer.
Our team of brewers come from diverse backgrounds, but they all share
the love of great beer and bring their own unique recipes and ideas to
the table. We have maintained the 3 barrel brewing system that Tex Mex
Beer™ was founded on to allow our brewers to create small
batch beers that capture the types and styles of beer they love. These
beers are packaged in firkins and sold by the glass in our tasting room
and to local bars that are dedicated to craft beer.
Give us a chance, we truly love good beer. Thank you for your
support!

King
Brewery
Jester
King is an authentic farmhouse brewery committed to making wild ales
and spontaneously fermented beers that reflect the unique character of
our location in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. Like the small
farmhouse breweries that inspired us, we pursue beer making that
involves time, patience, unique fermentation, full attenuation, and
refermentation in the serving vessel. We use water from our well,
locally grown and malted grains, and native wild yeast to make beer
with a sense of place unique to our brewery.

Hill
Country Wine Trail
Four
times a year, we plan special Wine Trails and Events to make your
visits even more rewarding. The trails are self-guided driving tours,
with wineries offering special tastings of newly released wines,
demonstrations and tours. Some even pair wine and food (like wine and
handmade chocolates for Valentine’s Day!). You’ll
meet the winemakers and hear first-hand their enthusiasm for what they
do. The trails are also a chance to enjoy legendary Hill Country
musicians, artists, chefs and entertainers of all kinds. Other Events
include trail Kick-off Tastings focusing on a smaller group of wineries
in one location and Barrel Tastings where you get access to
pre-released wines and time with owners and winemakers.
You’ll find more specific information on each trail
and event, including dates and prices, under the “Wine
Trails” and "Buy Tickets" tab on this site. Note that some
wineries charge for tastings, must be notified of groups of 8 or more
and have pet restrictions (just look for those icons on individual
winery pages).
Please join us on a trail or at an event for an even better
taste of the good life.
Please drink responsibly and use a designated driver.
